Scarecrows have been used for centuries all around the world to keep birds away from our crops and gardens.  They may have given way to more modern bird scaring techniques, the presence of a scarecrow can still be an effective deterrent and a delightful season addition.

In celebration of our hardworking agricultural community in St Johns County, Rype & Readi is holding  a Scarecrow Building activity and competition. This contest is open to registered groups from September 15 through October 15. Judging will take place the week of October 16. They will stand prominently in the pasture of our Elkton Farm and Downtown Farm Market until Saturday, October 28 when we host the annual SCARECROW BURNING MAN BBQ at our Elkton Farm!

Yes, we will be burning the scarecrows to mark the opening of the SPOOKS ON spirit of Halloween at Rype & Readi Elkton Farm!

We invite school groups, sport teams, local clubs, or good friends to build your own scarecrow. We encourage families, school groups, and civic organizations to take up the challenge and let their imagination and creative skills create some eye-catching entries.

We provide a pole, clothes and straw. Use your creative talents to bring burlap, clothing, and accessories to represent your school, club or group as you see fit. Expert assistance from our scarecrow techs will be available! Feel free to bring your own “add-ons” to really customize your scarecrow. It’s a great way to show your school spirit or promote fellowship in your group!

Scarecrow Building Fee is $10 per Scarecrow.

Building Times: Fridays From 3-6pm, Saturdays from 9:30am-12:30pm

Dear Friends, Family and Valued Patrons of Rype & Readi

As we close 2018 and look forward to our 5th year, we once again welcome and will be challenged by change.


As many of you know, we took a calculated risk in opening at the Colee Stables downtown.
Property ownership had been disputed and litigated for the last 9 years. Finally resolved, we were regrettably unable to come to reasonable terms with the new owner and our lease ends on the 31st of December. This was complicated in part by a commitment we had made to expand our market operations downtown beginning next fall, adjacent to a well known, well trafficked anchor.
Rest assured Rype & Readi will have a downtown presence again. But for the immediate near term, we are consolidating operation to our St. John’s Golf Club facility where we will focus on catering, prepared foods, dinner events, cooking classes and, of course, a market for fresh local fine foods.

Our location at the St. John’s Golf Club is a diamond in the rough. In addition to having a full restaurant and bar, we have a magnificent patio overlooking acres of manicured greens, gorgeous in the daylight and tranquil in the evenings when the golfer’s day is done.
With plenty of space on the terrace and adjacent properties (including parking for several hundred cars) this venue, at the intersection of State Road 207 and I-95 promises to host some creative, exciting and delightful family events throughout the coming year.
